These indices were developed for Transport Canada to measure changes in volumes and prices across transportation sectors using a methodology developed internally by Statistics Canada.
The Transportation Services Index is a Laspeyres-type volume index that includes domestic “for-hire” freight transportation only, specified under the North American Industry Classification System (codeĀ 48). The Supply Chain Services Price Index is a composite index that tracks monthly price changes for freight transportation services provided by the for-hire transportation sector in Canada.
Seasonally adjusted data are available for the Transportation Services Index.
Data are available at the national level only.
With each release, data for the previous six months may have been revised.
